FM_Business_NewsletterIf you are creating a business process for your company, you will need to make sure that it is sustainable.
That means, it needs to keep working even if you get really busy; even if you are not there, and you are relying on one of your employees. Sustainable means it just keeps humming along no matter what.

To do this, you need to have a built in system that is deeply embedded into who you are as a business, and how you execute on your requirements. It will need to be sufficient for the task at hand, but also not over-engineered. That is, you can build a very detailed process that covers all the bases, but if it is so complicated that no one but you can do it, your employees will never follow through and your system will break down. It needs to be just enough to get the job done, and nothing more.

So sustainability of business processes includes these elements:
1. It must be achievable even when busy
2. Others must be able to complete the same process
3. It must be embedded into your business system
4. It must be sufficient to get the work done
5. It must not be over-engineered.

Sustainability is a key component of successful business processes.
