It used to be that if you wanted to release an app for sale on the app store you had two options: either learn Swift programming language and build it by hand, or use the FileMaker Go app, and ‘bundle’ your app with it. But now in the past year FileMaker, Inc has released their iOS SDK for FileMaker. It is now actually possible to create an app in FileMaker, and release and sell it as a stand-alone app in the App Store. (Of course, you still must go through the usual approval process by Apple.)

Here is how FileMaker, Inc. describes it on their Support page:
“The iOS App SDK allows you to build a standalone iOS app from your FileMaker solution. Users can access your FileMaker solution similar to other iOS apps without having to install FileMaker Go.”

They do however, also say that they do not recommend or support using the App Store to distribute apps created with the kit. However, we are aware of several stand-alone applications which have been created and sold in the App Store using this exact kit.

If you have some plans to distribute and sell an application on the App Store, depending on what type it is, FileMaker might be a good choice for you.
