As an entrepreneur running a FileMaker Pro Company, I need helpful tips to be successful at what I do and how I help my clients. As a busy business owner, I know you’re always looking for great tips to be successful at what you do too.
Recently, I read a great article by Jacqueline Whitmore in Entrepreneuer Magazine about the basic life habits of successful entrepreneurs.
What’s surprising is how much of succeeding in business and life is about common sense. (”Eat breakfast”); that’s stuff my mother taught me! Who knew she was laying the foundation to being a good entrepreneur? But put it all together, and you have a set of habits which will work for you in the long-haul.
Here’s the list:
1. Eat breakfast
You body needs fuel to be at your best. Even if you grab something on the go, make breakfast a priority with good nutritious food.
2. Plan your day
The best way to get things done is make a plan. Consider when you’re most productive, when you’ll need a break and what you want to get done each day.
3. Don’t check email right away
Checking your e-mail can be a distraction. Try to limit how often you check for a more productive day.
4. Remember your purpose
Try not to get caught up in the daily tasks of running your business. Pause to remember why you do what you do.
5. Single-task [this is a good one!] – opposite of ‘multi-task’
Focusing on too much at once can make you inefficient and ineffective. Try focusing, delegating and getting things done.
6. Visualize
Envisioning what you want to accomplish can help you reach your goals.
7. Say no
Knowing your vision will help you say no to the things that may be good, but not best for your business.
8. Value your time
Your time is money. Consider what only you can do effectively.
9. Delegate
Delegate those things that others can do just as effectively.
10. Listen
Taking the time to listen can help you communicate better with your team and clients.
11. Show gratitude
Keeping a record of all the things you’re thankful for can motivate you for today’s challenges.
12. Stand up and move around
Standing up and moving around can keep your body fit and your mind active.
13. Breathe deeply
Breathing deeply gets oxygen to your brain. You think more clearly. And you have more energy.
14. Take a lunch break
Getting away from your desk to each lunch can make you more productive in the afternoon.
15. Clear your desk
A clean desk can help you face tomorrow with a new beginning.
