Every small business owner knows that it pays to get things done. But for those wearing multiple hats in their business, getting traction on their to-do list can be a challenge. Traction is the ability to get things done. It involves focusing on a job, executing along plan, and finally seeing results.
Traction results in a high degree of satisfaction. Have you ever finished a work day, and asked yourself, ‘what did I accomplish today?’ And you are not sure! You may have had to spend the whole day putting out fires, or jumping from one meeting to the next. It was probably all very urgent stuff. But was it important? That leads to a feeling of shallowness or emptiness when it comes to your work.
If you want to achieve traction, the experts say you must stop being a multi-tasker, and start being a one-tasker. That is, focus on one thing. Hit it hard. Get it done. See results. This is traction. Traction requires focus.
Traction also requires having a plan or path to follow. If you just go wherever the needs of the day take you, you no longer are experiencing traction. You must have a plan. This requires advance planning, either the night before, that morning, or at the start of the week. Traction literally means staying on track.
Traction will lead you to the results you are looking for in your business.
The end product of focus, execution, and results, is a deep sense of satisfaction. When the day is done and you look back at your work, you will be able to know exactly what you accomplished.
Traction leads to satisfaction.
